Founded in 1798, Cobourg is located on the shores of Lake Ontario 95 km east of Toronto. Both Hwy 401 and the former Hwy 2 run through the town. There is daily train service to Toronto/Ottawa and Montreal on VIA. Cobourg has their own community transit system.
Beautiful homes from the time of confederation still grace the town along with modern single dwellings and condos, some of which face the shoreline of Lake Ontario. The downtown shops provide a small-town atmosphere with easy access to all of the venues.
Through the 1980s and 90s the town developed the lakefront connecting a boardwalk to the sandy beach and Victorian Park and historic downtown. The waterfront beach is open for swimming and other water activities. Marinas, History Museums, Art Museums, and the Farmers Market are all worth a visit along with the East Pierhead Lighthouse.
The Ontario Waterfront Trail passes through Cobourg with cyclists making use of the trail during the warmer months.
The town boasts a modern hospital, the Northumberland Hills Hospital a 131-bed full service facility. The town has two high schools, St. Mary Catholic Secondary School, and the Cobourg Collegiate Institute along with a satellite campus from Fleming College.
Nearby camping, fishing, hiking, and boating are all available to those looking for adventure. All this, but still only one hour from Toronto.
